Cease and Fire!
And Ode to You, Zvi Kogan, Not so Kind Canadians, The Big Stick, A Respite in Lebanon: The Weekly Conquest Week of 11.24.24 – 11.30.24
Welcome to the ZioKnight
Week of November 24, 2024
This year I am thankful for all of you. Thank you for being the most engaged, inspiring, and active audience I can ask for. The ZioKnight started as a tiny project to provide a few dozen people with news updates on Israel. On the 29th issue of the 8th month of publication, thousands of readers later, your responses, tips, and feedback propel this newsletter forward, which wouldn’t exist without you.
Sunday 11.24
Rabbi Zvi Kogan A”H
Following the tragic murder of Rabbi Zvi Kogan, the UAE launched into action. Their embassy to the U.S. called the terrorist attack “more than a crime in the UAE… it was an attack on our homeland, on our values and on our vision.”
Their police apprehended three suspects and are working diligently parallel to allies to bring the terrorists who murdered Kogan to justice. [1][2][3]
Monday 11.25
A Protestor in Montreal
The famously kind Canadians may be earning themselves a new reputation for their successful globalization of the intifada. An anti-Israel and anti-NATO protest was held in Montreal where there were Nazi Salutes, Keffiyehs, smashed windows, and a torched effigy of Netanyahu.
The massive Jewish community is waiting for a “sawrrey,” which is Canadian for “sorry.” [4]
Tuesday 11.26
To the disbelief of the international community and the chagrin of Northern Israelis, Israel, and Hezbollah have reached a ceasefire agreement. The deal stipulates that over 60 days, the Lebanese military will take the IDF’s place in Southern Lebenon as the IDF retreats into Israel. A joint French-American commission will monitor the process so the IDF can defend itself if the deal is broken.
The mayors of towns on the Northern border are upset about what they see as an early cessation of the demilitarization of southern Lebanon. They believe the deal is a recipe for a disaster like the failed UN Resolution 1701 that attempted to prevent conflict in the territory 18 years earlier. [5][6][7]
Wednesday 11.27
A Depiction of Theodore Roosevelt’s “Big Stick Diplomacy”
Roosevelt once said that for successful foreign policy, one must "speak softly and carry a big stick.” The U.S. helped broker a ceasefire with Hezbollah and is planning on supplying the stick in the form of a $680 million arms sale to Israel.
The quick succession from the deal to weapons sends a message to Israel’s enemies that they can act with diplomacy, but their words are to be enforced. [8][9]
Thursday 11.28
Just days into the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, shots were fired. Although the deal has been broken, both sides remain committed to easing tensions and are resuming the progress to replace the IDF with the Lebanese army in the war zone. [10]
Friday 11.29
Jerusalem Post Article Headline
I was shocked to read this headline, but after reading the article, it kind of made sense. Qassem said he “won because [he] prevented the enemy from destroying Hezbollah.”
Since a side letter to the ceasefire deal is classified, we don’t know what the entire future of Hezbollah is. This is precisely why northern Israelis, in large part, are unsatisfied with the agreement. I’ll keep you all in the loop as more details that explain this perplexing situation are released. [11]
Saturday 11.30
HTS Rebel Militia
An opposition group advanced a blitzkrieg against the Assad regime in Syria, conquering 2/3 of Aleppo. Russia launched air strikes in support of Assad. With a destabilized region, Israel will pay close attention to developments to analyze potential conflagration and arms movements throughout the country. [12][13]
