Welcome to the ZioKnight!
Week of 26 May 2024
Hearken ZioKnights and welcome to our first issue! As we come together to march and watch the Israeli day parade, enjoy some facts from this week!
Sunday 5.26
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the international court that prosecutes countries, not to be confused with the similarly named ICC, which focuses on individuals. The ICJ told Israel to stop military operations that have the “intent to destroy” the Palestinian people. Since the IDF operations in Gaza don’t aim to wipe out the Palestinians, the ruling holds little to no legal importance. It is notable because it is a statement against Israel during its existential war against the Hamas terrorists. [1][2][3]
Monday 5.27
Did you see either of these posts on your Instagram feed this week? The reason they became viral originated with an IDF strike, killing two Hamas generals next to a safety zone in Rafah. The first image places blame on the IDF for causing 45 civilian deaths following a fire originating from the strike. The second represents the idea that the fire wasn’t intentional and is a reminder that the war started because of the atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7th. [4][5]
Tuesday 5.28
As you all know, these two viral posts didn’t lose any popularity Tuesday, when we found out more information about the fire that made its way into the Palestinian camp. Reports show that the targeted building either contained ammunition, which caused a second explosion, or that debris from the small rockets hit a gas tank, which exploded. It is important to understand this story, as the IDF didn’t intentionally cause the Palestinian deaths and the attempt to pin the blame on Israel is very problematic. [6][7]
Wednesday 5.29
You may have been thinking for the past 8 months of this war, “where does Hamas get all these weapons?” Well, the answer has been through tunnels under the Egyptian border. Israel has gained control over the final border adjacent to Egypt, yielding the IDF control over the entire border of the Gaza strip. This should prevent rearmament of Hamas as the war continues. [8][9][10]
Thursday 5.30
Far far away from Israel, in a land called Yemen the Houthi Terrorist organization launches rockets at shipping boats traveling through the Red Sea. “Why would they do such a disruptive thing?” you may ask. They would respond that they’re doing so in support of the people of Gaza. This has been going on for 8 months and the Americans and British are fed up. Both armies worked together to launch strikes against Houthi targets to limit their ability to continue to bombard the popular shipping route. This conflict is important to watch because it is a corollary of the war in Gaza. Like Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis are funded and supported by Iran, which is Israel’s biggest enemy. [11][12]
Friday 5.31
As you would expect, the Houthis weren’t very happy about being held accountable for the chaos they have been causing. In response to the American and British counterstrikes, the Houthis claimed to have launched an attack on the US aircraft carrier in the region. The US either didn’t notice it or it wasn’t very effective, because as US officials responded saying they “weren’t aware” of such an attack. BURNED. [13][14][15]
Saturday 6.1
Following an announcement by the IDF that the war will continue for at least 7 more months, Biden proposed an immediate ending of it. The deal included an immediate cease-fire, gradual release of the hostages, and rebuilding of Gaza. Both sides will surely negotiate, and we’ll get back to you about the result next week! [16][17][18][19]
